Itzik Gottesman is the associate editor at the Yiddish Forward newspaper and edits the biweekly column Di velt fun yidish. He is a past-editor of Zukunft literary magazine, now in its 112th year, and publised by the Congress for Jewish Culture.He holds a Ph.D in Yiddish Folklore from the University of Pennsylvania and is the author of the book, "Defining the YIddish Nation: The Jewish Folklorists of Poland". He has taught Yiddish language and culture at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas at Austin.
Among other Yiddish related things he's done - an archivist at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, a Yiddish actor with the short-lived National Yiddish Theater. He is particulalry interested in Yiddish folksong and has conducted research in Israel, Mexico City and New York. He has established the Yiddishland Records recording label to produce Yiddish CDs. His mother, Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman, is a well-known Yiddish poet and songwriter.
